Rachel Zoe Believes These NYFW Fall 2024 Trends Are Perfect to Try Now
When you’re as obsessed with fashion as our CURATEUR-in-Chief Rachel Zoe, NYFW is one of the most major events of the year. It’s not just that the biannual affair is a feast for the eyes, style experts like her look to these runways to predict the next big things—and the Fall 2024 shows were no exception.
So what should you plan on adding to your closet soon? We asked Rachel, who traveled to the Big Apple this past February to see for herself. “I’m seeing absolute luxury,” she explains. “It’s like cozy rich girl style, if that makes sense. Think MK and Ashley of early 2003.” Specifically, lots of layering luxe materials (think faux fur coats with sheer blouses and draped wool pants) in core neutral colors with elegant accessories. Even casual pieces like sweats get a glamorous glow up with styling, and grunge-inspired makeup goes romantic.

Headscarves
“You probably already have a scarf or two in your collection, which makes trying this trend so easy to do. If not, follow Anna Sui’s lead and look for ones with bold patterns or a 1970s color palette for that vintage-inspired feel. Pair it with your favorite faux fur coat and oversized sunglasses and you’re set.”
“Quiet luxury is here to stay, and we’re really seeing that in the fabrics from NYFW shows including Brandon Maxwell, Khaite, and Carolina Herrera. Think silks, wool, faux fur, and leather.”
“Swap out your usual crossbody bag with a top handle style, like the ones seen on 3.1 Phillip Lim’s and Altuzarra’s runways, to give whatever you’re wearing a little more of a dressed up feel. For more versatility, shop styles that are convertible so you can add on that crossbody strap when you need to be more hands-free!”
“Sweats were seen all over the NYFW runways for Fall 2024 and there are a few ways to make them look sleek, not sloppy—like Marc Jacobs and Coach did. Opt for monochromatic palette and layer with luxe pieces like a leather jacket, handbags with hardware details, and stacked jewelry!”
“An overarching theme at NYFW was the juxtaposition of glam and grunge, and makeup is an easy way to try this on your own. Helmut Lang showed this beautifully in a more editorial way, but to try it in a more every day way, use a fluffy brush diffuse a soft black pencil all the way around the eye. Stop there or add drama with black, brown, or grey shadow blended out. For that glam/grunge combo, pair this with something soft and romantic, like a flowy dress.”
“While there were splashes of color and pattern through the NYFW shows, a more minimalist and neutral palette was an overwhelming trend. So much white, grey, camel, and black, which always looks clean and timeless so you can never go wrong investing in pieces like this!”
