As a mother and passionate philanthropist, our CURATEUR-in-chief Rachel Zoe has been a supporter of Every Mother Counts for a while now (she even co-hosted an event with EMC’s founder Christy Turlington Burns last year to help bring awareness to this crucial cause), so when it came time to choose our next charitable partner, she knew the non-profit would be perfect to spotlight.
Sparked by Turlington Burns’ own postpartum issues, Every Mother Counts was founded to advocate for maternal health around the world. According to the organization, 303,000 women die every year from complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and 99% of those happen in the developing world. What’s worse is that so many of these deaths are preventable, and that’s what EMC aims to change.
Issues including discrimination and shortages can be a challenge to quality maternal health care in some parts of the world, and EMC focuses on the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals—things like gender equality, quality education, and economic growth—to create change. The non-profit does this by giving grants and working with partners and thought leaders, and your support can help them continue on this mission.
