Behind the Brand: Le Specs
This fall at CURATEUR, we’re honing in on classic fashion while finding a balance with timely trends. All items in this season’s curation are tied together by a single theme: polished glamour. These pieces will carry you in style far beyond 2020 and breathe new life into your wardrobe.
One of our most-coveted staples and current obsessions? The Neptune sunnies crafted by cult-favorite brand, Le Specs. Not only does this silhouette pack a chic punch filled with retro vibes in a must-have gold frame, they are also made by one of the most noteworthy brands in the game. Le Specs is known for making high quality styles, which continuously lands them on Instagram feeds and magazines.
Ahead we talk with Le Specs Creative Director, Hamish Tame, about the celebrity-favorite sunglass brand and how it came to be.
In your own words, can you please describe the impetus of cult-favorite sunglass brand, Le Specs?
I love the idea of making well-designed eyewear accessible. At the heart of Le Specs is a fearless design philosophy, with a mission to offer excellence in terms of quality and value for money. Over time, we have developed a reputation and following with many celebrities, and I believe that it’s because of our unique and innovative designs.
Which pair of sunglasses put Le Specs on the map?
There have been so many significant moments over the last fifteen years when new designs have caused a sell-out frenzy. However, our Last Lolita frame in collaboration with Adam Selman would take the crown. The style was worn by so many celebrities and named by Vogue as the sunglasses that “Defined Fashion in the 2010’s”. This success has undoubtedly given me the freedom and confidence to continue innovating with new ideas and unique concepts.
What makes sunglasses one of the most important accessories a person can own?
I love that sunglasses can transform the look of any outfit—even if it’s just a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Not to mention the fact that they keep your eyes safely protected from sun damage!
How would you suggest different frames for different face shapes?
I generally run by the notion that if you have a round face, then avoid round sunglasses and if you have a squarish face or strong jaw avoid sharp square sunglasses. In saying that, I do believe that it just takes a little confidence for you to wear any sunglass shape…you should always wear what you love!
How would you describe the Le Specs aesthetic?
The Le Specs aesthetic celebrates summer in a minimal and modern way. I love the idea that a pair of Le Specs can effortlessly complete your outfit, and give you just the right amount of attitude. I would love in the future worldwide for Le Specs to be synonymous with summer.
Can you tell us about your role at Le Specs?
As Creative Director of Le Specs, I work with the most incredible team across product design, marketing and our online projects, where everyday tasks are so varied. At the moment, we are busy working on a sustainability project, and finalizing our 2021 collections, so my days are consumed with a lot of innovation sessions with the team, and working on ways that we can make our products and packaging more environmentally-friendly.
We’re so thrilled to have Le Specs in our fall curation! Please tell us more about the Neptune sunglasses.
I am so excited to be partnering with Rachel Zoe and the CURATEUR team. I have been a big fan of Rachel’s for so many years, and our Neptune sunglasses are the epitome of her effortless style and glamour. Neptune is one of our bestselling sunglasses, with a silhouette that is a square-round hybrid and midsize-fit, making it ideal for all face shapes. I designed the style with a unique studded effect nose bridge, which catches the light beautifully, and exudes a subtly luxurious look.
