Black & White Palette
“This classic combination is so Karl and it NEVER goes out of style. Liu Wen did it so beautifully but there are truly so many ways to try it out more subtly. For example, tuck a classic button down shirt into a black skirt for an unexpected formalwear look or pair a feminine white dress with edgier black accessories for more contrast.”
Chain Details
“Karl loved embellishments like chains and they were all over the Met Gala this year. Of course Amanda Seyfried took this to the extreme and looked fabulous in a dress made completely out of chains, but you can also try this on a smaller scale by layering a ton of necklaces with an open neckline, or investing in a bag with a chain strap for that extra bit of edge.”
Hair Accessories
“From Syndey Sweeney’s bow to Emma Chamberlain’s headband to Florence Pugh’s headpiece, hair accessories were one of the night’s biggests trends. So now is the time to break out those barrettes, add a ribbon to your ponytail, or even adorn your updo with a subtly sparking headband.”
Menswear
“Menswear is another trend that never really goes away! You probably already have pieces in your closet to create a look inspired by the ones worn by Cara Delevingne or Kristen Stewart, but if not, a few I’d suggest adding to your wardrobe are some chic heeled loafers, a crisp white button down, or some black tuxedo pants. Combine all together, it’s perfection.”
Pearls
“Pearls have been having a moment for a while now—even Harry Styles has gotten in on the trend. But of course they’re so Chanel, which is why they were all over the Met Gala this year. Kim Kardashian covered herself in pearls and it was just a feast for the eyes, but you can always start small with a pair of drop pearl earrings—which you’ll wear forever.”
Pale Pink
“The only color as big as black or white on the carpet was baby pink. Nicole Kidman wore this shade like a dream in her archive Chanel dress and JLo paired it with black, which added a little edge and contrast to such a soft and feminine hue. So if wearing all pale pink feels a bit too girly for you, her palette is a perfect one to get inspired by.”
